I love using decorative trays in my home. They are so great for eliminating clutter and they also look great! There are so many great uses for trays. Here are some great ways that you can use trays in your home:

  • Use a tray at an entryway table as a catchall for keys, sunglasses and wallets.
  • Use a tray in your bathroom or dressing table to hold perfumes, makeup and nail polishes.
  • Use a tray to hold your jewelry. This is great if you have a few really great pieces that you want to showcase. It also keeps your jewelry easily accessible.
  • Use a tray at your bar or on a bar cart. This is a great way to add a decorative element. You can use it to hold bar accessories such as cocktail napkins, straws and other bar pieces.

Some of my favorite trays are the custom clear acrylic trays. However, most of these run from $80 to $100. I found some inexpensive trays from The Container Store. The small trays measure 9″ x 6″ and cost $5.99. The large trays measure 13″ x 8″ and cost $9.99. I made a bunch of printable tray inserts for the 9″ x 6″ size for you to print at home. All you have to do is purchase the tray, edit the insert to include your initial, print out the insert, cut it out and place it in the bottom of the tray. So easy and inexpensive! Plus, you can swap out the inserts whenever you want to change up your decor. If you want your insert to last a long time, you can even have it laminated.

I plan on making inserts for the larger tray size as well. I will post them soon. I will also be posting more designs and colors for the smaller trays, so stay tuned!

  1. What a cute and fun idea! Love the bright colors and designs! And as someone who works at The Container Store, I am really glad to be able to offer this to my customers. Of course I am printing one off for myself, too!! I am thinking a large acrylic tray with my new kitty’s initial for her food bowl – cute, huh? Thanks for the free design, Jenny!

  2. Love these! What an adorable gift idea! How did you stick the print in the bottom? Mod podge?

    • I just lay them right in the bottom of the tray and put stuff on top it. I don’t think there is a need to glue it to the bottom. That way when you feel like switching them out for a different design you can just pop out the old one and put in a new one :)

  3. Those are so cute! Thanks for making the inserts for us! I’ve been meaning to make one of the Container Store trays, now I don’t have to!!!

  4. Love this! I figured out how to use some other of your fabulous printables, and my Mom loved the results so much she asked me to do this one so that she could cover an old cardboard salt container to hold her paintbrushes! It’s just perfect! We wish for some with three initials in a full 11 by 8 1/2 in the center, as opposed to the corner. Thanks!!

  5. Where can you buy the tray from?

    • Hi Nina, we provided links to both the small and large trays in this post. They are in light blue above. Both trays are from The Container Store. Hope this helps!

  6. LOVE this tray! You guys have got a friend for life with all these Initials and Monograming projects! Many Thanks! K :)

  9. I am totally struggling with printing these. I am following the directions but it prints only part of it. HELP!

    • Hi Judy, What you can do is when you go to print, click on advanced in the printing options and check print as image. This should fix your issue.

  10. I printed these tonight and my initial is centered in the text square when I change it to mine, but it is elevated and only partially shown when I print. Any ideas?
I tried chevron yellow and navy and chevron lime and guava (both 9×6). Thanks!

    • Disregard my last comment. It was opening in Preview by default rather than Adobe Acrobat. Sorry!

      • Glad you got it Jennifer!

  14. Do you know if the container store still has these? I called and they couldn’t find it. I’m wondering if I should go myself and search. They are 1hr away. Thanks

    • I ordered mine online since my nearest container store is 3 hours away. I just checked online and it says they have them in stock online :)

  15. I am having the same issue as mentioned above with the initial being elevated. I can’t seem to get it centered. Any ideas? Love your stuff by the way!

    • Hi Becki, Are you using a Mac or a PC?

  16. Thank you SO much! I’m ordering a bunch of trays today! Can’t wait to work on them :) Like the post above, a three letter monogram on these inserts would be awesome and even more custom.

  17. Do you have any Christmas colors? Was thinking one of these trays full of cookies would be a great gift!!

    • Hi Amber, At this time we don’t have any Christmas colors. Thanks!

  18. Hi! I’m trying to make these for my nieces for Christmas but every time I go to print my initial is elevated and not centered. I’m using a Mac…any ideas??

    • Hi Katie, Since you are on a Mac the file is going to automatically open in preview. You need to download Adobe Reader for free from Adobe’s website and open it in that instead of Preview. This will fix your issue. Thanks!

  19. I have already purchased the tray but I am having trouble printing the inserts.

    • Hi Sonya, What issue are you having?

  20. I can not access the downloads at work cuz they are considered share/storage and work is the only place I can print. Would you be so kind as to send me a coupole of items as attachments in a reply email?
I am trying to personalize my new camper in teal and coral colors and I like the tray liners and monograms for the front door. I appreciate your time!
    Thanks so much

    • Hi Benita, The file size is too large to email. It gets kicked back as undeliverable. I have another option for you. You can go to a place like office depot or fed ex office. They have computers there where you can open and print the file.
