DIY: Jewelry Cleaner

DIY: Jewelry Cleaner

After I got engaged I was given a brand new container of jewelry cleaner to keep my ring clean. Two years later, it’s clumpy and nearly gone. Instead of buying more, I decided to make my own! After doing some research to determine which household products are safe for diamonds and gold, I got to work. This little concoction is so easy and inexpensive, I’ll never buy jewelry cleaner again. Try it out to put the sparkle back in your jewels!

*Important:  Do not use this cleaner on pearls or other porous stones such as opals, amber, coral, and ivory

What you need:

Small glass bowl

Warm water

Ammonia (also an ingredient in the cleaner my jeweler gave me)

Soft brush or tooth brush (I took mine out of the cleaner my jeweler gave me)

What you need to do:

1. In your glass bowl, mix 1/2 cup of warm water with 1 tablespoon of ammonia

2. Place your jewelry in the bowl and let sit for 5-10 minutes

3. Use your brush to gently clean stones then rinse your jewelry with warm water

4. Go outside and let your jewelry sparkle in the sun
